I took these photos for a couple of reasons. First and foremost I wanted to ensure I put everything back together correctly. I also noticed there was not a lot of documentation on performing this job, so hopefully others can find these photos helpful as reference material.

Remove tank bolts.

Remove tank pivot.

Disconnect breather hoses, fuel line, and electronics..

Be very careful, the fuel line connection is fragile.

Unplug battery.

Disconnecting electrical components.

Tank fully removed.

Disconnect ECU.

Air box cover removal.

Air filter and intake trumpets exposed.

You may need very long Allen keys to get to the trumpets.

The previous owner overtorqued the front air box holding bolt. The correct torque is quite low.

Drilling out the overtorqued bolt.

Removing radiator covers, be careful not to damage the turn signal wiring.

Timing cover removal.

Make sure to jam the timing chain guide so the chain doesn't skip teeth when you remove the tensioner.

Timing chain tensioner removal.

Note orientation of timing chain tensioner.

Camshaft ladder removal.

With the camshaft ladder removed, clearances can be checked using feeler gauges.

The camshaft gears have marks which must be aligned.

Removing cam bucket.
